    Winneshiek County Farm Crawl | View Details Location: 507 West Water, Decorah, Iowa 52101

    Free event! Spend the day visiting seven Winneshiek County farms. Each farm will offer free tours and samples. See below for the list of farms and tour schedule. Attached is a flyer with schedule, information, and addresses.

    1. Winneshiek Farmers Market

    Do your shopping at the Winneshiek Farmers Market from 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. in downtown Decorah. 

    2. Winneshiek Wildberry Winery

    Visitors to the winery can take their photo at Ole and Lena, sample wines, eat a meal off the menu, walk through the vineyards and attend the tour presentation.  The grapes will be getting ripe as harvest generally starts mid-September. Sample homemade fruit pies.

    Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    Tour Times: 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

    Due to road construction on the North Winn Rd. take the Locust Road north from Decorah to Locust. Turn left on 337th Street to Winneshiek Wildberry.

    3. Seed Savers Exchange

    Sample dozens of heirloom and open-pollinated tomatoes - including favorites and rare varieties from SSE’s seed bank. Also stop in and enjoy hayrides, participate in the salsa tasting contest, and learn how to save your own tomato seeds. See listed program time for more information.

    Lillian Goldman Visitors Center open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    4. Iowa's Dairy Center

    Iowa’s Dairy Center is not only a working farm, but a tourism facility where you can learn about modern dairy farming. On your tour you will see the milking parlor, robotic milking facility, freestall barn for housing the milk cows, special needs barn for calving, calf barn and Iowa’s Dairy Museum. Sample yogurt from Country View Dairy

    Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    Tour times: Noon and 1:30 pm

    5. Empty Nest Winery

    Come watch the virtual tour of how our wine is made the old fashion way by fermenting the whole fruit/berries not the juice; also how we tore down & reclaimed our 100 year old barn into our new winery building. Then sample our wines and hard ciders to see how they are 'True to the Fruit'.  Sample wine and hard ciders for people 21 years and over.

    Tour times: Virtual tours will be going all the time from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    6. WW Homestead Dairy

    Take a self-guided tour down our viewing hallway and learn about where we make our award winning cheese curds, block cheese & ice cream. Sample our fresh cheese curds and try a few flavors of our premium ice cream while you’re visiting! 

    Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    Tour times: Self-guided tours are available throughout the day.

    7. Winneshiek County Fairgrounds - Raising the Roof Fundraising Concert - Party on the Track with Craig Morgan

    The 65th Annual Hesper-Mabel Steam Engine Days wil be held September 9 through September 10 in Mabel, MN at the Junction of Highway 43 & 44 in Southeastern Minnesota just 30 minutes north of Decorah, IA.

    All day Steam Engine activities include: old time threshing, shingle mill, log sawing, corn shelling & shredding, rock crushing, blacksmith shop, tractor plowing & sub soiling, and tractor dyno. Each day at noon there is a parade. Wonderful food available daily as well as many activites all throughout the day.

    Cost: $5 to get on the Steam Engine grounds.
